While the algae is feeding upon the organic materials used to keep the ceramic granules in place they have become looser and are more prone to damage. When the force of a pressure washer even at “low pressure” is used while walking all over the roof the granule loss is rapidly sped up.
Now you have opened a new layer of organic material for the algae to feed upon.
Using the chemical injector with a pressure washer to apply bleach will not kill and disinfect the algae. The green algae on your home’s exterior is a totally different beast than our roof algae. A pressure washer or power washer under the best circumstances will not be able to deliver a strong enough solution. A dedicated chemical pump is needed to obtain the manufacturer’s guidelines for roof cleaning.

Pumps that are not capable of producing the flow needed usually are compensated by a stronger or
kicked-up solution.

This is a solution that adheres to the manufacturer’s guidelines. When a company uses 10 to 15 gallons of solution you can bet it was either very strong pool chlorine or it was pressure washed afterwards.
These unapproved solutions don’t kill and remove the algae. Pressure is still
used to blast away the visible algae stains, leaving the spores to re infect the shingle or tile roof.
